Small savings scheme: Government keeps interest rate on NSC, PPF, others unchanged

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday kept interest rates on small savings scheme, including National Savings Certificate (NSC) and public provident fund (PPF) unchanged for the first quarter of new financial year 2022-23.
This the 9th straight quarter for which the Centre has opted to keep interest rates unchanged, citing an elevated level of inflation.
With this, small savings schemes like NSC and PPF will continue to attract an annual rate of 7.1 per cent and 6.8 per cent, respectively.
“The rate of interest on various small savings schemes for the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23, starting from April 1, 2022, and ending on June 30, 2022, shall remain unchanged from the current rates applicable for the fourth quarter (January 1, 2022, to March 31, 2022) for FY 2021-22,” the finance ministry said in a notification.
