ntpc: Russia sanctions hit NTPC’s Rs 21,000 crore Bihar project

NEW DELHI: The sanctions on Russia have hit the progress of state-run NTPC‘s 2,000 MW coal-fired power plant being built at an investment of Rs 21,000 crore at Barh in Bihar, power minister R K Singh informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
“NTPC’s Barh super thermal power project Stage-I (3X660 MW), which is under construction, has involvement of Russian entities,” he said adding there was difficulty in payments and renewal of bank guarantees due to exclusion of Russian banks from SWIFT international payments system.
According to Singh, supply of balance equipment/material from Russian entities may get affected as also the visit of engineers/technical advisors from Russia for commissioning the project.
The project is being built at a cost Rs 21,312 crore and total expenditure incurred till February 2022 is Rs 19,738 crore. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2023-24.
